Aandeg Miikana (Crow’s Path)

RESOURCE BOOKLET

The care booklet contains advice passed down from youth who have aged out of foster care previously, along with testimonials from video interviews they recorded. There are also practical resources, such as building a budget, grocery shopping, and places youth can go if they need help. Additionally, there are activity pages with colouring sections, word searches, and blank journaling pages to encourage the youth to keep these booklets and use them to their fullest potential. Download the booklet here.

DOCUMENTARY

Watch the documentary! “Where the Crow Gathers”

This project was originated and created by Kayleigh Legarde (Sandy Lake First Nation), whose vision began at just 16 years old. It was co-developed alongside Eternity Neekan (Mishkeegogamang First Nation) and Malakai Mawageesick (Sandy Lake First Nation), whose leadership, voices, and community engagement were essential to shaping the direction and impact of this work. Both Eternity and Malakai are Hear Us Youth team members. Other HUY members are also featured in the project, along with other First Nation youth living in Thunder Bay.

The name Aandeg Miikana, meaning Crow’s Path in Ojibwe, reflects themes of transformation, wisdom, and connection. The crow symbolizes meeting life head-on and building meaningful relationships—teachings that mirror the realities faced by youth aging out of care.
